The San Diego Police Foundation, a 501(c)(3) independent nonprofit organization whose work includes fundraising, grantmaking, and program delivery, is looking for a Communications Specialist to join our small, but mighty team of talented professionals dedicated to the public safety sector. The Communications Specialist works very closely with the Director of Development & Communications to execute and maintain a comprehensive program to meet the Foundation’s marketing and communications goals, including written, visual, digital, and electronic communications. Reports directly to the Director of Development & Communications.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Writes various content in various styles for various communication vehicles including social media platforms, website content, marketing collateral, media talking points, and media advisories.
Creates visually appealing and relevant promotional materials for print, web, and social media using Adobe Creative Suite.
Implements campaigns for marketing and fundraising efforts including, but not limited to, newsletters, presentations, digital promotions, direct mailings, invitations, and online fundraising.
Maintains email marketing strategy, including executing the distribution of electronic communications per the established schedule, producing email campaigns, managing audiences, building forms, and monitoring insights.
Plans and executes the Foundation’s social media strategy, including developing and scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, documenting analytics, increasing brand awareness, and building a narrative.
Manages, writes, publishes, and shares updates and content to the Foundation’s website, including blog/news posts, event photos, success stories, and educational videos.
Delivers monthly reporting that analyzes traffic, trends, and overall digital strategy.
Proofreads written communications for clarity, spelling, and grammar.
Assists with inputting, updating, and managing the donor database for marketing and communication purposes.
Assists with researching, reviewing, and implementing applications for grant submissions.
Assists with donor stewardship, special events, public and media relations strategy, and development campaigns.
Provides onsite support at special events. We typically plan and host 3-4 major fundraising and donor recognition events per year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & ATTRIBUTES:
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or related field preferred
At least two years of relevant working experience
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites, Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing software, and CRM systems, as well as social media platforms
Adaptive and having a strong work ethic
Ability to work independently, think strategically, and overcome challenges
Excellent organizational, time management, multi-tasking, and planning skills
Willingness to jump in and assist colleagues with a variety of tasks across the organization
Demonstrated respect and inclusiveness for all employees, embracing differences
Capable of lifting objects up to 30 pounds
Ability to handle highly confidential information appropriately
Loyal and enjoys working in a small, close team
IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL BRING:
Excitement about the organization’s mission, and ability to communicate the mission and values to external and internal audiences.
Experience using computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing and design, presentation preparation, web interaction, and/or other digital communication capabilities.
Understanding of and experience using digital and social media analytics is a bonus.
Valid driver’s license, insurance, and daily access to a vehicle.
Candidate should be based in the San Diego area.

This position is full-time with occasional nights and weekends.
Salary range: $52,000 – 60,000 per year, plus benefits, depending upon the level of experience.
