Halloween Safety Tips from SDPD

Be prepared to have fun and stay safe this Halloween with these sweet trick-or-treating safety tips from SDPD!

  • Carry glowsticks or flashlights for increased visibility.
  • Remind kids to cross the street at corners or crosswalks, and to never dart out into the road.
  • Only visit houses that have a porch light on.
  • Make sure costumes are the correct size to prevent trips and falls.
  • Ensure masks do not limit a child’s vision.
  • Use reflective tape or stickers on costumes and bags.
  • Warn your child to not enter a residence unless accompanied by a trusted adult.
  • Make sure candy is factory sealed. If any candy looks suspicious and might contain marijuana or some other poison, call the SDPD on its non-emergency number (619) 531-2000 or (858) 484-3154. An officer will come collect the candy and ask where your child might have gotten it.
