New K9 Crimefighters on the case!

A Time to ‘Paws’ and Give Thanks

The San Diego Police Department’s K9 Unit is recognized as one of the best canine teams in the country, often looked to as setting the gold standard in excellence. This success is a testament to the strong public-private partnership between the Police Foundation, SDPD, and you — our community!

For the past 21 years, every police service dog at SDPD has been purchased with funds generously donated by the community through our K9 Program. Donors who make this impactful gift are proudly named K9 Champions.

When a new canine completes the rigorous SDPD K9 Unit academy and proves itself in the field, these dedicated donors are invited to Paws4Thanks, a special event where they meet their K9 and its handler.

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome our newest group of K9 Champions as they met the latest additions to the SDPD K9 Unit. This year, the unit proudly introduced six police service dogs and two mobile odor detection (MOD) dogs — all made possible through your generous support.

Thank you for being a part of this meaningful partnership and ensuring our officers have the best four-legged partners by their side.
