Serving Up Gratitude
SDPD’s Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
Last year, volunteers dedicated thousands of hours to serving the San Diego Police Department. At the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, leaders from SDPD serve lunch to show their thanks. With the help of our friends SDG&E and Havok Restoration, we were able to organize a meaningful celebration for these selfless San Diegans.

The annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon engenders engagement, provides key information, and recognizes excellence. SDPD offers six volunteer programs which include the Cadet Program, Crisis Intervention, the Reserves, STAR/PAL, Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP), and Volunteers in Policing (VIP).

These volunteers play a vital role in the safety and well-being of our community. They dedicate their time in many ways – giving comfort and care to crime victims, performing safety checks for ailing and aged San Diegans, patrolling high-traffic tourist attractions such as Balboa Park, filing reports for officers, directing traffic, and many other tasks. Volunteers allow officers to focus greater attention on making San Diego a safer place. These programs also provide meaningful engagement for these San Diegans.
