“Tails” of K9: Meet Bady

Bady is a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois and has served SDPD for over four years. He is a dual-purpose K9. As a police service dog, he functions as a psychological deterrent and aids in de-escalation. Additionally, Bady is trained in firearm detection. He has found over five firearms used in various violent crimes over the past year.

Recently, Bady responded to a radio call regarding a shooting. He assisted officers by locating the firearm, found under a vehicle, and taking the suspect into custody. It was later determined that the located firearm was involved in a separate shooting that resulted in a homicide.

Bady was funded through a generous donation by K9 Champions, Susan and Mark Drescher-Mulzet.

Like police officers, police canines have diverse specialties and serve various units. The “Tails” of K9 series highlights K9 Crimefighters that serve SDPD and our community.
